Looking for cheap hotels in Hawaii-don’t want to go through agent

Nothing in Hawaii is cheap, even for those of us who live here ;)

We have to keep the cost for everything under $20,000 Canadian for everyone. Anyone with ideas for costs would be great.
A family trip of 11 of us. 5 adults and 6 kids between 11 yrs and 17 yrs old. Which part of Hawaii is a good place to go to. This is a once in a lifetime trip for all of us. It will be for Christmas 2007.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A day or 2 b4 Christmas the hotel rates & airfares increase significantly until Easter, in March. April – May is cheaper also until the beginning of June, (a couple of weeks in) when the rates of everything go up again, but not quite as much as Dec. 25, -March because it’s winter in a lot of places. 11 people, 5 adults X $1500/wk + 6 kids (ask about kid’s discount, I think it’s 12 yrs. old, but I may be wrong)$1000/wk = $13,500 american – whatever the exchange rate is now. Oahu is the most inexpensive & best for the kids. Maui would be the best but way more expensive.$1500/wk is conservative for adults it’s easy to go $2-$3000/wk for adults, but you have to do your homework & take advantage of all the deals, you may be able to haggle group rates because of your large party of 11(group discounts) Don’t be embarrassed to ask for all the discounts you can get, just like buying a car, get the best price or tell the salesperson you’re going to check w/another company,& it will pay off. Make reservations as early as possible, last 2-3 years we set records so don’t expect the prices to go down, they will only rise every year a small percentage. Aloha, See you in Paradise! You can get bus passes for a week, (cheap) don’t have to rent a car for the whole trip, I guess you need a van which is more expensive. Best bus system in the US Award couple of years(great bus system $2 one way for adults $1 or.75 for students.Bus goes to Pearl Harbor, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Aloha Stadium Swap Meet(flea market across from Pearl Harbor, good for souveniers)Bus goes all around the island but takes awhile for longer trips bc/ of the stops. You can walk all over Waikiki, only 2 miles long, 2 main streets, Kuhio Ave., & Kalaukaua Ave., runs parallel 1-2 blocks apart.http://gohawaii.about.com/cs/oahuactivities/a/101oahu_2.htm

Pose for photos in front of the Duke Kahanamoku Statute. There is a live web cam there, so you can call one of your friends that are on the net, give them the address, and wave to them live.

I am traveling from San Jose, CA to Oahu or Maui, late August or early September… any good websites to book on right now?

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

im thinking about going to italy paris or hawaii.what fun things can i do in hawaii?

Aloha – you can do everything in Hawaii!! On Oahu especially!

learn to surf
snorkeling with sea turtles & tons of fish
take a whale watching cruise (winter months)
learn how to eat poi at a luau (learn how to hula too)
Visit Pearl Harbor – the Dole Plantation – Valley of Temples
View the world’s best surfing on the North Shore
Hike Diamond Head Crater – hike to one of many beautiful waterfalls
buy fresh pineapples to ship home – or a great new pareo
hang out on Waikiki Beach – maybe take a catamaran tour or ride on an outrigger canoe
There is nightlife and dining for every taste! Plate Lunch and shave ice are especially good!

I always seem to find the best packages through Pleasant Holidays. http://www.pleasantholidays.com/PleasantHolidaysWeb/Hawaii-Main
Also I would suggest hiking to the to top of Diamond Head. The view is fantastic!

I need to book a vacation package to Hawaii. Does anyone know of the best or cheapest websites for discount travel, except for Travelocity, Orbitz, and Expedia. Please let me know from your experience which is best, even if it is among the 3 that I just mentioned. But I’m really looking for one of those sites or companies that people rarely know about (if it exists). Thanks!

PleasantHolidays.com and suntrips.com are the ones I always find the best deals.
