In my research, I noticed a few tips about needing to book some activities at least 5 days in advance—at the time I was just browsing and thought I’d run into it again upon further research. Now planning activities for our Hawaii trip and want to make sure I cover all my bases. I figure luaus don’t have to be booked early…maybe like sunset cruises?

Anyone? Are there others to be sure to book in advance?

It kind of depends on when you are going. We’ve found that summer months (when kids are out of school) and holidays tend to be extra busy. Thing tend to book up during those times.

Actually Old Lahaina Luau on Maui books up a lot year round, so if you are thinking about that one, you should definitely book it asap. It’s arguably the best in Hawaii.

Some activities are cheaper if you book directly with the company ahead of time. Trilogy on Maui is one company that comes to mind.

You can find lots of honest, unbiasted Hawaii vacation planning tips at http://www.GoVisitHawaii.com

We are 17 and 18 and looking to meet new people and just take advantage of the whole experience. So does anyone know of some fun things for young people to do there… anything interesting in the night life maybe?

There isn’t much night life in Kona or at the Hilton Waikoloa…the Big Island is pretty layed back. There are alot of fun things to do like Surfing, Swimming, Parasailing, Jet Skiing…all of the beach activities but most of your Night Life Partying is on Oahu. (Waikiki/Honolulu) The HWV does have the Dolphin Encounter, but it is done on a Lottery Basis. if you are looking for more of a Party Atmosphere, you might want to think about Oahu instead. Aloha

Usually I scoff at those who ask the same question about LA, but hawaii…
–touristy stuff — pearl, volcanoes, etc.
–cheap, local eats.
–expensive, local eats.
–snorkle & surf locations, rentals, etc. for *newbies* (no pipes!)

Details please!!

I have lived in Hawaii for more than 6 years and my family has always played tour guide to our friends and relatives.
First of all, I strongly recommend you check out Hanauma Bay on the Southeast Coast of Hawaii. It is an embayment, crescent formed by a volcano. It is a snorkeling place where you can see Turtles, Eels, an extremely diverse amount of fish, and the epitome of marine life. No experience required just know how to swim. Bring Snorkels and maybe a little cooler full of drinks, and snacks. My favorite local place to eat at is called Keneke’s Plate Lunch in Waimanalo. Don’t judge the place by its appearance, because it looks rundown but the food just screams Hawaiian. I recommend the Mini Plate of Kalua Pork. Here is the address 41-857 KALANIANAOLE HWY WAIMANALO, HI 96795-1626. Another good place to eat is a little coffee shop in Waikiki called Wailana Coffee House/Cocktail Lounge. Cheap and good eats, and it is by the beach so have a couple drinks and walk it all off on the shore. One more local joint for good food is a Mexican restaurant called Cholo’s in the North Shore. As for touristy stuff, Pearl Harbor is a good thing to see. Go very early though because the lines can extend to about an hour wait. Early is around 7:30 am. Other touristy stuff involving rentals could be to buy a ticket for parasailing. (Lots of Fun). Good Surf Locations are Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay, Sandy Beach, Makapuu Beach, Bellows AFS (must be military or retired), and Banzai Pipeline. As for expensive local eats, YOU MUST GO TO THIS RESTAURANT CALLED "JOHN DOMINUS" The food is one of a kind. And the experience will last forever. Another expensive dining experience is to buy tickets for the Dinner Cruise Atlantis Navatek. It is not too expensive, but it is a great memory. Make sure it is Navatek, cause I don’t know about the others. As for hotels, I recommend the Embassy Suites in Waikiki. Before I moved from Hawaii (yes, sadly I moved), my family and I stayed there and it is remarkable. Hopefully I helped. :) I think I covered all the details. By the way, this is all for the island of Oahu. I have info on Hawaii, but not sure if you need it. Thanks for the memories! :)

We are planning a trip to Kona, Hawaii in April and there will be three people going so if you have been there and know of any price efficient dining and activities please let me know, thanks!

Hi, I’m sorry that I don’t know that much as I live on Maui, but I would reccomend seeing the volcano of Kilauea as it is a beautiful sight, but just be careful as it’s active! You might also like to consider visiting the "Big Island Cookies" store as it would make great souveniers, and here is a link to there most famous product: http://www.bigislandcandies.com/bic/dept.asp?dept_id=3

If I can think of anything else I will tell you, if not have a wonderful trip!

i would also like to know which hotels i should stay in.

For a more romantic wedding, Kauai would be the choice. Princeville Hotel on the North Shore is a beautiful choice to stay, however, it is about a 45 minute drive away from the major town. Another option would be The Outrigger at Waipoli Beach. It is a new Condo Hotel and is extremely beautiful for a wedding. It is also located in Kapaa Town which is only about a 20 minute drive to the airport. The major draw back is the traffic in Kapaa.

Other islands to visit would be either Oahu or Maui.

Three things to do on Kauai
1. Try doing a zodiac tour along the Na Pali Coast.
2. Visit as many beaches as you can. Kauai has some of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii.
3. You can’t go to Kauai without going down to Waimea and eating some Shaved Ice from JoJo’s

Oahu
1. Walk the Waikiki Strip. There are a ton of shops and the International Market Place.
2. Visit the Polynesian Culture Center and learn about the different cultures that make up the Pacific.
3. Go to Matsumoto’s Shave Ice on the North Shore (voted best Shave Ice in the State)

Maui
Im not too familiar with things to do on Maui. However the one thing you must do is go and eat some Guri Guri Ice cream from Tasaka’s in Kahului.

Surreal adventure aboard Fair Wind and Hula Kai vessels with their new “Sea Rockets”. Guests zip themselves around with “James-Bond Like” devices – very cool! For more info, go to www.fair-wind.com
