Hoping to visit the Big Island of Hawaii in December, and looking for some options for stuff to do at minimal or no cost. I’m interested in anything from historical sites to farms to snorkeling beaches to mild hikes. We’re mostly staying within a day trip out of Kona.

You will need a car to go to thee Parker Ranch, one of the largest in the U S, to be atop the Volcano before sunrise (may be a tour bus), the southern most point in the US, the huge crater of a dead volcano, the west side beaches to swim with the turtles. Have fun!

kaui’i is real secluded and real pretty

try poi’pu beach in kaui’i it’s real nice there

as for activities, i dunno. i smoked alot of weed when i was there. that was a fun activity.

here’s a link to a good resort…

Prices and web addresses please

one of the best experiences we had taking a helicopter ride over the mountains there. if you’ve seen jurassic park (movie)…the incredible scenes were shot there. be sure to take a camera. wow!

On April 4th, 2009 Atlantis Submarines in Maui, Hawaii experienced a whale encounter. For more information please visit http://www.atlantissubmarines.com

This sub dive was a “once in a lifetime experience” for all passengers.

Expedia.com
Hawaiianair.com (One of the few airlines that still serves free food.)
Alohaair.com

Once you’re in Hawaii, do use Hawaiian Airlines or Aloha Airlines for island hoping. It’s fun and very unexpensive. You can even come back on the same day so you don’t have to worry about cost for hotel room. If you book at the right time, interisland tickets can be as low as $29/one way. Both Hawaiianair and Alohaair offer vacation packages. Just plan your trip accordingly. Have fun! =)

Activities that you can do on each island:
1. Big Island – Climb Mt. Mauna Kea, walk the crater of Kilauea
2. Maui – Climb Mt. Haleakala
3. Lanai – Horse riding, kayaking
4. Oahu – Shopping, Polynesian Cultural Center, Hike Diamond Head Mt.
5. Kauai – Waimea Cannon, Mt. Kokee (scenic pts/view), Hanalei’s wet cave

I’ll be going to hawaii in mid August & I’ll be going to Oahu staying in Waikiki…. I’ve looked at some websites like hawaiifuntours.com , hawaiiactivities.com, robertshawaii,. I have noticed that all the prices to do fun things are expensive as hell for each person and it seems like hawaiiactivites.com has the best prices compared with other sites b/c they bundle multiple activities. I just wanted some advice for booking my activities. Know of any good websites to go to? Also, my bf and i want to go island hopping. I’ve looked at the prices on expedia but they cost $90 roundtrip each person… Anyone know of any good deals for island hopping?

How much does the snorkeling equiptment cost for hanauma Bay if i book it in hawaii? Jetskii? Bumper tubing? The Banana boat? Pearl Harbor & USS Arizona..

I also wanted to book a combo where it costs $177 each person for the atlantis submarine & sunset dinner on the navatek boat. Is the food good there? Whats the best helicopter ride

You are going to love Hawaii! I’ve been going since I was little every summer to visit my grandparents. We were just there in March.

You can view a lot of the choices of excursions online. Check out some of these website:

www.hawaiidiscountactivities.com
www.cheaptourshawaii.com
www.barefoottours.com
www.hawaiiwebdesign.com

I book most of my activities when I am on the island because they have more than a dozen brochures with coupons located at the airport near the baggage claim. Luau’s I usually book in advance. The best luau to go to is Paradise Cove. It’s a bit pricey but if you buy the Entertainment Coupon Book for Hawaii (ebay – cheap!) you can use their 25% off coupon and they have many other activitiy coupons you can use as well. Another great activity is the Polynesian Culture Center. Stay away from Roberts Hawaii – too commercial and expensive.

Jetskis are usually priced $65/hr. No need to reserve, they are located off the beach and the prices are pretty much the same. Same goes for the rest of the water sports.

Haunauma Bay has plenty of coupons in the brochures too – $14 rt w/ shuttle w/ snorkel gear. When you visit Pearl Harbor, entrance is free, they just ask to donate. The USS Arizona costs $6 – $11 pp.

Don’t bother with the atlantis submarine. It’s boring and you don’t see much in the water since they only go over sandy spots in the ocean. Do a sunset catamaran dinner instead.

Here is what you do… go to www.craigslist.org and go to the Honolulu/Hawaii site. Post a classified ad requesting someone to send you Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hilo brochures from the airports and you will pay them (via paypal) for shipping and trouble. I did that before I went to my Oahu trip this past March and paid someone $10 to collect all of these brochures – and it was a TON of them!

As far as island hopping – Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines have specials now and then that are $29 – $40 each way to the islands. If you visit another island, I most definintely recommend Kauai – it is very tropical and there is a ton of outdoor activities to do there and so much to see, especially the day trips on the catamaran to go snorkeling and see the Napali Coastline. Completely breathtaking.

Lastly, I really recommend you purchase the travel book: Oahu Revealed, The Ultimate Guide to Honolulu, Waikiki & Beyond by Andre Doughty. They have the best tips, reviews, and best places to visit and secret places to visit on the island.

Good luck and Aloha!

Lisa
