How much would a trip to hawaii cost for a family of 4 including air fair, hotel , food ,car and activities
Just a rough estimate
in june and wich island is the best
I’ve priced a trip from Minneapolis area for a family of four around $4000 with some activities.
It would help to know where you are traveling from, what level of hotel you want, what size of car, what activities are you most interested in, what are the ages of your kids?
I’m a travel agent, feel free to send me your info and I can put together a price for you – dont worry, pricing is free =)

My boyfriend and I would like to go to Hawaii next year. I’m trying to save money now and would like to know if anyone has tips, web links or other ideas for planning a trip that’s low budget yet romantic and memorable. Any advice?
Hawaii is a great place to go for a romantic trip. You can totally do it on the cheap. Here are some suggestions:
GENERAL SUGGESTIONS
Avoid the most expensive times of year:
February (Valentine’s Day and Pro Bowl)
Summertime
Thanksgiving
Christmas and New Years
Late September and October are generally the least expensive times to go.
AIRFARE
To get a good deal on airfare, sign up for Hawaiian Airlines email alerts. If you live on the west coast, sign up for Alaska Airlines too.
Another website I like is Kayak.com. It’s an aggregator meaning it will check multiple websites at once (Orbitz, Expedia, etc). On the search results page you can click on a chart that will show you whether airfare prices are on the rise or on the decline – kind of like a stock chart.
LOOK FOR PACKAGE DEALS
If you’re a AAA member, check out their site. A few weeks ago there was an Oahu 3 day package for $500 per person (including airfare and hotel). Alaska Airlines often has Hawaii travel packages.
RENTAL CAR
You’ll probably need a rental car, but if you want to avoid this expense, stick to Honolulu. On Maui there’s a company that rents used cars and will pick you up from the airport.
HOTEL
I like vacation rentals by owner (see link below). These are folks who have condos and rent them out (usually by the week). They sometimes come with cars and often come with kitchens – which means you can save $$$ by not eating out. On Maui there’s a costco right by the airport.
EATING
Avoid the tourist traps. Don’t hit the restaurants and bars on Waikiki, they’ll be over priced and full of tourists. Try to eat like a local and you’ll save a ton of money. Try some malasadas (Portuguese doughnuts) and some Kona Coffee. Get a bento (rice bowl) with kalua pork. On Oahu: the food court at the Ala Moana mall has some regular food court options and also some more "island" choices.
If you want to have a romantic night out, get some Mai Tais at the Shorebird then do a picnic on the beach. Don’t get sucked into some b.s. $12 nachos at Senor Froggs, that’s dumb and you can get overpriced nachos at home.
STUFF TO DO
Rent a car and drive around, there’s a lot to see no matter what island you’re on. You’ll be amazed how much the scenery changes from one side of the island to the other. Pick up one of the "Revealed" Guides (like Maui Revealed). They’re generally regarded as the best and always have great suggestions for things that don’t cost much but are totally amazing.
Last but not least: for cheap souveniers and a huge selection, check out the Aloha Stadium swap meet on Oahu. It’s not open every day, so check the website.
I’m not much of an adventurer – just the normal beach/hiking/snorkeling activities. If you have one, what are your comments?
I don’t like asking sellers because they are biased and only look after my moola
To be on the safe side, yeah that way, if you drop the camera, it’ll
float back to the top, not sink to the bottom.
We have to keep the cost for everything under $20,000 Canadian for everyone. Anyone with ideas for costs would be great.
A family trip of 11 of us. 5 adults and 6 kids between 11 yrs and 17 yrs old. Which part of Hawaii is a good place to go to. This is a once in a lifetime trip for all of us. It will be for Christmas 2007.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
A day or 2 b4 Christmas the hotel rates & airfares increase significantly until Easter, in March. April – May is cheaper also until the beginning of June, (a couple of weeks in) when the rates of everything go up again, but not quite as much as Dec. 25, -March because it’s winter in a lot of places. 11 people, 5 adults X $1500/wk + 6 kids (ask about kid’s discount, I think it’s 12 yrs. old, but I may be wrong)$1000/wk = $13,500 american – whatever the exchange rate is now. Oahu is the most inexpensive & best for the kids. Maui would be the best but way more expensive.$1500/wk is conservative for adults it’s easy to go $2-$3000/wk for adults, but you have to do your homework & take advantage of all the deals, you may be able to haggle group rates because of your large party of 11(group discounts) Don’t be embarrassed to ask for all the discounts you can get, just like buying a car, get the best price or tell the salesperson you’re going to check w/another company,& it will pay off. Make reservations as early as possible, last 2-3 years we set records so don’t expect the prices to go down, they will only rise every year a small percentage. Aloha, See you in Paradise! You can get bus passes for a week, (cheap) don’t have to rent a car for the whole trip, I guess you need a van which is more expensive. Best bus system in the US Award couple of years(great bus system $2 one way for adults $1 or.75 for students.Bus goes to Pearl Harbor, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Aloha Stadium Swap Meet(flea market across from Pearl Harbor, good for souveniers)Bus goes all around the island but takes awhile for longer trips bc/ of the stops. You can walk all over Waikiki, only 2 miles long, 2 main streets, Kuhio Ave., & Kalaukaua Ave., runs parallel 1-2 blocks apart.http://gohawaii.about.com/cs/oahuactivities/a/101oahu_2.htm
My husbands company is taking a trip to hawaii next year..my daughter will be 1 year old by then. Im just curious if anyone has any experience going on a week long trip somewhere with a baby that young. Even if i dont go, my husband is going to go without me and bring a friend or someone else so i really want to try to go but im afraid that i’ll regret being over there with our 1 year old. I am not going to leave her and go by myself with my husband, either she goes with me or i dont go. Anyone have any advice about going or not going?
We took a 9 month old to Italy. Granted there are big differences between a 9 month old and a 12 month old but the big question is: Is she walking yet? If no, then your experience could be as wonderful as ours was. If yes, it can still be good but the flight will be challenging.
First, you didn’t say where you were flying from so I do hope it’s the West Coast. Our trip to Italy was 6 hours from Boston, therefore about the same from WC to Hawaii- give or take. We entertained her primarily with our laptop- a rechargable battery and all of the Baby Einstein DVDs we could pack. She did sleep a lot and when she was fussy, we just put on a movie. All in all flights weren’t bad but I do recommend getting her her own seat if you can. Sitting on lap is tempting for toddlers to get down and crawl on the disgusting floor or want to walk the aisles. In her own carseat, she will know she can’t get out and it’s another familiar thing.
Once there- the best thing we could do was resist wanting to bring the small travel stroller and instead brought our larger, Perego Pliko. It was handed to us upon arrival and was a lifesaver. That stroller was her vehicle, her highchair, her bed and her changing table, and allowed us to do everything we would have normally done without a baby. When she needed a diaper change- just pulled her to a shady spot, pulled off the front bar and got to work. If she was hungry, I santized the tray and gave her food off my plate in the restaurants. If she was tired, we reclined the seat and just kept walking. We even enjoyed late romantic dinners outside in the piazzas with her snoozing along side us!
Nothing wrong with traveling with a baby as long as you do a little planning and know that the flight will be a little tough but manageable. Jet lag might be tough, so don’t have high expectations. At least you’re on vacation and can nap whenever you want. Last- if she’s really terrible on the flight- you’ll never see those people again anyway!
Have a great trip!

I am looking to go to Hawaii this summer with some friends. About how much is a round trip ticket from Ohio to Hawaii?
Alright so for you, Elizabeth. I will be departing from Akron Canton Airport in Ohio and not sure where i will land, somewhere in Hawaii. Is there just a site i can go to for quotes because i’ve visited about 5 airline dealers and none will let me get a quote unless i enter stuff i do not know yet like times and all that?
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
