Do I really need a TV on a vacation to Hawaii?
I am well aware that TVs are not from the 19th century. It was an exaggeration to prove my point.

Some people love to just relax in their hotel room, but there is natural beauty everywhere you look. Go outside! Or Costco has large flat screens pretty cheap and then you could ship it home ;-)

http://www.hawaii-aloha.com/ – Two years ago NCL, Norwegian Cruise Line, pulled three of its four ships out of Hawaii citing problems with their competition and lack of profitability. At that time it was a big blow to the tourism industry here and came as a big surprise because the Pride of Hawaii, a brand-new ship wasn’t even in service for an entire year before it got the 86. Part of the problem was management. Weekly cruises around the Hawaiian Islands was something that hadn’t been tried here for many years. As a result, it got off to a very rocky start with lots of consumer complaints. Many of the complaints centered around issues about the ships work force, which by law, must be American only. Many felt that Americans could not do as good a job at customer service as the foreign flagged ships.

I need especially hawaii the most… and i need ONLY airfare+hotels…and think CHEAP!!!

Go to Expedia.com, and then you can find the hotels on there. It is up to you to decide which hotel is for you!
The Ohana hotels are less expensive.

Remember to post your videos as a response to this one. :)

researching honeymoons. thought St. Croix was the spot, but have been reading about sand fleas on the beaches ruing otherwise perfect vacations. hawaii is much more expensive but I’m wondering if it is worth it to avoid sand fleas. are there sand fleas on the beaches of hawaii during the month of June?

There are no sand fleas here. I’m a regular beachgoer (go to a variety of beaches) and have never encountered any problems. The beaches are great here. If you want more info on Oahu beaches, see http://www.to-hawaii.com/oahu/beaches/

I’ll be staying with a friend, and I’ll be there for a week. I remember when others I know have gone on cruises and tropical vacations, there was SO MUCH STUFF they had to bring. I have a month to get ready. What do I need to bring with me?

Aloha, congratulations on your upcoming trip to HI!!!

It is lovely in HI this time of year so dont worry about warm clothes. Maybe one pair of long pants & a lite jacket are all you’ll need

Shorts/nicer short pants
t-shirt/tank-top maybe 1 nice top if you’re going out
swim suit – swim cover up
hat (trust me on this one, bring a hat to keep the sun off)
sunscreen, sunglasses
good walking shoes if you’re touring around
camera

you can buy flip-flops (slippers) cheaply when you get there – you can also get t-shirts & paraeo (swim coverup) cheaply when you get there – a hat too if you want – so there is not terribly much to pack. Nice that you’re staying with a friend who probably has a lot of the basics already (sunscreen, bandaids, aloe)

Have a great time, come to the message boards at www.hawaii.com and tell us all about it!

Waikikis first beachfront chapel will open Saturday at the Moana Surfrider, a Westin resort and spa. The chapel, located on the Moanas first floor in the Diamond Head wing, is expecting its first customers March 2.The $3.5 million chapel is also forecast to bring in 1,200 wedding couples per year, generating over $10 million in annual sales. To date, the Moana Chapel already has 420 confirmed wedding bookings throughout 2010. The couples are mostly from other countries, but the chapel plans to reach out to local couples as well.

But I want to go when there is not many people, around what months would be a good time…it’s also cheaper isn’t it.

What you like and like to do can help you pick the best time to come. For example, the best time to see whales is from November through March, though the humpbacks are most abundant in February and March. When Keiki (children) are in school, there are fewer families visiting the islands. The most cost-effective times are after Labor Day till mid-December and then again from mid-January through April. Typically, rates go up and availability goes down from about December 15th through January 15th due to the holiday season. If it’s warm weather you like, temperatures run about 85 degrees from May through October and about 78 degrees from November through April. It’s drier in the summer months than the winter months, though the west and south sides of the islands are always drier than the north and east sides of the islands.

1. The busiest tourist season is December to February, mostly because people from the mainland want to get away from the blizzards.

2. June to October is the “hottest” period, but temperatures do not vary very much, ranging between 75 to 85 degrees.

3. Rainfall is heaviest between December and March, but not so heavy as to be a concern. If you wait a while the sun will come out and you will be rewarded with a glorious rainbow.

4. Hotel prices are lowest between April and mid-December.

5. The best weather is often found in April, May, September and October. These are also the months when you can find some good travel bargains.

6. Airfare and lodging tend to be more expensive during the "high" season of mid-December to mid-April. Also, winter is the time to see those humongous waves on Oahu’s famous north shore.

7. In summer, the kids are out of school, so beaches are more crowded.

8. The last week in April and first week in May can be very busy in Waikiki. This is the peak season for visitors from Japan due to the Japanese "Golden Week" holidays.

9. The Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, held during the week after Easter and the Ironman Triathlon, held in October are busy times for the Big Island.

10. The water temperature in Hawaii is very consistent. The year-round average water temperature is a warm 74 degrees. It can reach 80 degrees in mid-summer.

So, the best answer to the question "When is the best time to visit Hawaii?" is: there is no bad time to visit paradise!

My husband and I have been talking about going to Hawaii on vacation in July. We have 3 children who are well behaved that we would be bringing along with us. I understand it is expensive but we are not trying to go Crazily expensive.

Anyhow, I am not to crazy about being around large crowds. I would really like to be in a quite atmosphere with beautiful scenery. Near (pretty close) to a beach (which is not overwhelmed with alot of people). We just want to relax but all the while make it enjoyable for the children and of course ourselves.

We have been on Vacations before, like the Florida & Carolina Scenes, the theme parks that come along with it and such on. Seems like everytime we go on vacation it ends up so hectic and though we have enjoyed it to an extent, it can be more stressful than the work atmosphere. We have always been so exhausted afterwards from the vacation.

Just to be able to go somewhere (hawaii) beautiful, swim, and just hang out with each other quietly.

Go to the Island of Maui, a little town called Kihei (pronounced "key-hay"). It is near the swanky resort town of Waialea, but it is low key and not dominated by the big resort hotels. It should be a little less expensive than Kapalua and Ka’anapali over on the other side. It is right on the beach and there are numerous hotels and apts/condos that you can rent by the week with lots of reasonable restaraunts and food stores nearby to stock up for the week.

It is very centrally located to the scenic attractions too. It is just a few minutes drive from the Maui Ocean Center and the road up to the top of Haleakula (a 10,000 FT peak with an observatory on top). It is a great drive to the peak and there is even a Bike Tour called Bicycle Bob’s that will let you coast all the way back down to the bottom. It is pretty cool.

There is a black sand beach open to the public about 5 miles to the west and you can get hooked up with any snorkel, surfiing, or fishing excursions from Kihei. Make sure you try the fish tacos at Maui Tacos. They’re pretty good.
