In my research, I noticed a few tips about needing to book some activities at least 5 days in advance—at the time I was just browsing and thought I’d run into it again upon further research. Now planning activities for our Hawaii trip and want to make sure I cover all my bases. I figure luaus don’t have to be booked early…maybe like sunset cruises?

Anyone? Are there others to be sure to book in advance?

It kind of depends on when you are going. We’ve found that summer months (when kids are out of school) and holidays tend to be extra busy. Thing tend to book up during those times.

Actually Old Lahaina Luau on Maui books up a lot year round, so if you are thinking about that one, you should definitely book it asap. It’s arguably the best in Hawaii.

Some activities are cheaper if you book directly with the company ahead of time. Trilogy on Maui is one company that comes to mind.

I think the Royal Hawaiian luau is only on mondays. I cannot think of anything that requires advance booking. There is a lot of competition, and so I am sure most will want to accomodate last minute plans. Hanama Bay on Oahu is closed Tuesdays. Sunset cruises don’t need advance booking. If you go to Kauai, I think people book some of the small catamarans in advance. Camping permits on Kauai sometimes have to be arranged months in advance.

I use to sell activities for 3 years on Oahu. Are you going during a peak period which would be like Summer June, July Aug. Thats the only time we would not have an activity. Which would be like when the Polynesian Culture Centers Luau would sell out. Also Germaines Luau would sell out as well. Other than that its really busy but we never had any other activities sell out.
