Trying to figure out a December trip, but I live in Colorado and my guests live in New York City and Buffalo, NY. Do I need a travel agent?
You can do the legwork on your own without paying the fees that a travel agent charges.
Use a website like kayak.com, and try to find cheap convenient flights. You may not all arrive in Hawaii at the same time, but with some careful planning you should be able to get yourselves all there relatively near each other.
Booking the hotel should be very easy.
I think a travel agent would be the easiest way to book all of that.

Either a travel agent or a customer service rep at the airline.

Call an agent and have them meet you all up in the connection city. Maybe Denver? There are direct flights from there to Hawaii I think. Since you only pay 1 booking fee, it may be worth it for someone else to do the legwork.
